Reciprocity
Efforts

PSNOLA recognizes the importance of reciprocity, or giving back to the guardians of the sacred wisdom of plant medicines while fostering collaborations between indigenous traditions and modern science.

In this spirit, we support the Organization for Indigenous Outreach and Conservation who alongside their US nonprofit partner, Circle of Sacred Nature, dedicate themselves to reciprocity between the Indigenous Kamentsa people and the land of the Amazon of Columbia.

Since 2010, OIOC has supported the basic needs of the Kamëntsá community, an Indigenous group that has been severely impacted by colonization and extractivism resulting in widespread poverty, with 79% of families living in adverse conditions. OIOC’s Roots of Dignity program focuses on families living in vulnerable situations. In addition to support for housing, OIOC focuses on sustainable livelihoods including localized food production and creating pathways for economic self-sufficiency.

PSNOLA supports OIOC’s program to support female-head of households who make beautiful hand-crafted items with indigenous designs inspired by visions from the plant medicine ayahuasca. We purchase these items in bulk for resale during most of our in-person events. Funds go directly to the women, contributing to their economic stability as well as reinforcing the vital cultural exchange between indigenous artisans and the wider community. (a small portion of funds go to support PSNOLA’s events).
